About
Carrow House is a mid-19th-century Italianate villa built beside the ruins of Carrow Abbey. Jeremiah James Colman purchased the house and made it the Colman family home in 1856.
In 1860-61 the house was extended by architect Edward Boardman. It was during this phase of the works that the internal wood decoration, primarily in the library, was carved by the sculptor James Minns.
In 1895 an extension and conservatory (constructed by the ironmongers Boulton and Paul Ltd.) were added on the south side of the house. In 1922 the house was converted into offices for the Carrow Works business.
