General Orders from 1833

Description

This is an incomplete collection of fragile papers dating from 1833 and 1835. They are all Genaral Orders for the soldiers stationed on Mauritius and the 9th Foot is one of these Regiments. There are details of courts martials, promotions, command changes, troop movements, and investigations in to spoiled food on delivery. The details include the Court Martial (16th Dec 1833) and execution (20th Dec 1833) of 9th Regiment of Foot Pte Charles Band for mutiny after attacking Acting Serjeant Thomas Montgomery. On 15th Feb 1834 there is an order to state that the time that the Morning Gun is sounded making it 1hr later (daylight savings?) On 29th July 1835 there is a list of men being discharged for change of climate and this includes 11 names of 9th Foot men. Typed transcription of the document with it
