soldier's pay book

A solider's paybook for Pte Abram William Ernest Smy, 4th Bn 33346 whot attested on 10/5/1917. Tucked into the front pocket is the Gospel for St John for "Active Service" 1914-1917. Pte Smy is mentioned in the Casualty Book on page 167a. The Paybook came back to the UK via Ernst Hettenbach of Schwetzingenm Baden-Wuertemberg (1896-1971) although there are no details as to how he came into posession of the item, there is a photocopy of a photo of Hettenbach in uniform
