Description

Pen and black ink drawing; The badge if the Royal Norfolk Regiment, Britannia with IX below, is set on a background of styalised shakos in a roundel which is surrounded by the Battale Honours of the regiment. The paper is very yellowed and tatty around the edges. The sketch was made by Cpl D.J.Bason by memory whilst a prisoner of war in Changi, April 1942 and kept thoughout captivity by RSM J Middleton.Pencil inscription in the right hand corner states 'CHANGI, April 1942 By Cpl Bason, D.J. of 6th Bn (POW Camp) Kept by RSM Middleton.' An accomanying letter from Middleton, states that the condition of the sketch was due to having to hide it and consequently the rats nibbled it.
