Description

A black and white paper map of the area surrounding Rustenburg, Africa compiled from the Farm Surveys etc. in the Surveyor General's Office under the direction of Major H.M. Jackson in December 1900. It was lithographed in Pretoria in the Survey and Mapping Sections Field Intelligence Department Army Headquarters. There is a scale located at the base indicating approximately 1 cm to the mile. A reference guide can be found to the right of the scale labeling the railways, main roads, roads, rivers, pans, homesteads, farm boundaries, and district boundaries of the area. A key map of corresponding sheets numbered 1-57 can be found in the bottom right corner. This map would have been made and used during the Anglo Boer War, or the South African War, which took place from 1899 to 1903.
