Description

A coloured, paper map within a brochure style set-up printed by Michelin (map number 102) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of D-Day, 6 June, 1944. This map is a reprint of the 1947 map, being published in 1984. The map lays out the coast of Normandy, France along with the battlefieds, roads, scenery/places of interest, hotels, and other various signs. The map legend, located near the top right corner, details and sublists the types of battlefields, roads, places of interest, hotels, and signs. The map scale sits below indicating that the map is a 1/200,000 scale of the location. A map scale is also cited on the cover of the brochure, stating 3-15 miles to the inch. A written history of the Battle of Normandy is detailed near the legend. A smaller map near the top center of the layout, detailed completely in French, shows the coast and the main movements of American and British troops from 6 June to 19 August, 1944. A section of the brochure is dedicated to the detailing the Historic Names and Principal Places of Interest as well. Both French and English are used throughout in the cover, legend, advertisements, historic writings, and locations on the map.
