Description
German Army Officer's Presentation sword 1902-3. The hilt steel, reverse P shape stirrup guard. Plain pommel, back-piece, ear. Languets and down-swept quillon. Silver-wire bound, black fish-skin grip. Faustriemen ( wrist strap) black fabric knotted on to lower guard. Officer’s Troddel (sword knot) is silver-grey. The scabbard is steel, no markings. One band with fixed suspension ring and fixed bar at back. The blade is slightly curved, single edged, with a raised back edge reaching to the tip of a recurving point 320 mm. This flange strengthens the thrust but inhibits the cut. The blade is damascened with gilt decoration into the upper part. It shows the Imperial Confederation Coat of Arms- a crowned Prussian eagle and on the ricasso, ‘Zimmermann s/b Keller 1902/1903’. On the reverse is EISENHAUER DAMASTSTAHL (Cuts iron Damascus steel)
