Description
A grid, coloured battle map of Majon-Ni, North East Korea annotated with defensive tasks for D Company, 1st Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment supporting the Royal Artillery. It was compiled in 1951 by the 64th Base Topographic Battalion with the use of photogrammetric (multiplex) methods at the Far East Command General Headquarters located in Tokyo, Japan. The map and its town names are written in either English or romanized Korean. Located at the base of the map contains a legend which describes the symbols for roads and trails; boundary lines of provinces, counties, and townships; spot elevation in meters; temples and shrines; danger zones offshore; reservoirs; and other geographical areas like fields, swamps, or woods. To the right of the legend are three scales pertaining to miles, meters, and yards. The scales indicate 2.5 inches to a mile and a ratio of 1:25,000. Underneath the scales is an instruction guide to the use of the grid map. In the bottom right corner is an index to nearby boundaries, an index to adjoining sheets, and a glossy of Korean terms. This map would have been used during Korean War.
