Article based on the journals kept by Edward Watson, Ensign in the 9th Foot from April 1810 to August 1811 during the Peninsular War. The article includes good descriptions of places and events. Ensign Watson resigned his commission in 1811 after the death of his brother and getting into trouble for religious preaching to his soldiers and the local population.
