Early in the twentieth century, every regiment would have its own band. As well as playing on parade and leading regimental marches, they staged recitals in bandstands in public parks. No doubt the Norfolk's regimental march 'Rule Britannia' was always on the playlist. The piccolo produces high-pitched notes similar to the fife, which accompanied military drums for two or three centuries.
