Sketch board

Field-sketching was an important skill taught to officers. By fitting a long strip of paper onto the rollers a panorama of the countryside ahead could be drawn. The compass at the top enables bearings of prominent landmarks to be noted. These could be used to communicate targets to other officers and create fire orders.
