trousers

Accession Number NWHRM : 3344.3

Description

Grey wool trousers worn by a Bugle Major of the Rifle Volunters, about 1859-1888. They have a strip of red-and-white-patterned material running down both sides, much like piping, which matches the decoration of the accompanying tunic. The larger buttons near the belt loops are inscribed with the name of the maker, Fox & Baldwin, while the smaller buttons on the front fastenings are inscribed with 'excelsior'. The trousers are lined in cotton, which has been unprofessionally hand-stitched in various places, presumably to repair earlier damage.
