Janbiyya or Khanjar

Description
An Arab soldier's knife of traditional design collected during the First World War. The hilt has a silver ovoid pommel, waisted grip with red stone and ornamentation at the narrowest middle part, an oval ferrule matching the width of the shoulder and closing over the mouthpiece of the scabbard when sheathed. The blade is double-edged, flat diamond-cross section, slightly curved triangular blade tapering to a sharp point. The scabbard is brass with black wavy ‘tiger stripes’, round finial the top is decorated with a silver band with 2 red stones.
