This example is marked under the bolt with a crown and ‘GR BSA Co 1914 Sht LE III’ having been made by the Birmingham Small Arms Company in 1914. Other stapms to the right of the breech ‘W36190’ and ‘36190’ on the bayonet locating stud. Behind the cocking-piece ‘236’. On the breech ‘DP’ for drill purposes. Deactivated

This was the key weapon of the British Infantry soldier during the First World War. It fired a .303 cartridge, either singly or from a magazine that held 10 of them. It was named after it's designer, James Paris Lee, and the place where it was made, Enfield. In trenches rifles were inspected twice a day.
