A 'Zepp Charm' sold as a souvenir of the successful shooting down of Zeppelin L.32 by Lieutenant Frederick Sowery, Royal Flying Corps, on the night of 23rd September 1916. The airship had been on a bombing raid against London. It crashed at Great Burstead near Billericay, Essex, killing all on board. By morning the lanes were blocked by souvenir hunters coming by foot, bicycle and car from as far as London. The main wreckage was guarded by the army and studied as a new type. Another example, L.33, damaged by anti-aircraft fire, landed nearby at Wigborough. The crew became prisoners of war.
