Brass nameplate with hole so that it could be hung on whichever bed R Brown was allocated in barrracks. As well as the iron frame bed, which might fold up when not slept in, there would be three 'biscuits' - mattress parts - and blankets. Above the bed were shelves and lockers for the soldier's equipment and hooks at the side to hang his webbing, sidearm and rifle. Everything would have to be arranged and displayed in a prescribed manner for inspection each day. The soldier would also be responsible for his 'bed space', the floor area immediately around. A drawing of the regulation kit layout was often made to ensure complete uniformity within the unit.
