Boer flag

Accession Number NWHRM : 1333

Description

Boer flag. A square flag made from a light material, probably linen. It has three vertical red, white and blue stripes in one corner, while the rest of the design consists of plain fabric (now light brown, but probably once white). It has a thin rope running along the top for tying, and the edges bear several small round rust stains where it was previously nailed to a surface. According to the accompanying handwritten label, it is a Boer flag taken from the tower of Kronstadt Church by Major McNalty during the Second Boer War. It was presented to the regimental museum by Mrs McNalty in 1949.
