Drawing, 'Sea monster' by Charles Catton (1728-1798), pencil and watercolour and black ink, undated; 15.1 cm x 21.5 cm; in pencil on reverse of Catton 9 presumably originally opposite this drawing 'A Monster driven on Shore in Portleaven-Bay - on the coast of Cornwall / 14th. Sept. 1786. - first discover'd by two boys at day break. / from top of the Head - to the end of its tail 48ft 10ins - the thickest part of the body / 24 ft 7 ins - Vide letter from a Gentelman at Morillian in Cornwall.'
