Description
Colman's wooden starch box, nailed with bottom corners re-inforced with tin strips, staple hinges and recessed handles for carrying, stencilled black lettering on sides, ends and lids; lid stencilled '[Gu] arranted free from adulterati[on] Colman'[s] Starc[h] by special appointment to the Ki[ng], bull's head trademark and royal arms; the ends are stencilled '1lbw, by special appointment to the King, Colman's Mustard and Starch', trademark and bull's head; and the sides are stencilled; 'J & J Colman's patent, No 1 prize medal starch requires no boiling white'; inside is lined with floral paper of pinks/carnations on an off-white ground; 1900 to 1925
