Description

Fossil, Mammuthus trogontherii (Pohlig) (steppe mammoth) fragment of lower left milk molar dP4. Mineralised, and cover cement partially lost; enamel is black to blue and blueish white in colour externally, and black and blue internally; the dentine is dark brown and partially covered by oxides, and the cement is dark reddish brown; the sediment is a course sand and is adhering to the inside of the roots; Quaternary, Pleistocene, Cromer Forest Bed Series, from Mundesley, Norfolk
