Drawing, 'Crypt under the Free (Grammar) School Chapel' by Henry Ninham (1793-1874), watercolour on paper, 1848; 15 cm x 19.3 cm; inscription backing paper 'crypt under the Free School Norwich / This was formerly the Lower Charnel Chapel and dedicated like the upper Chapel of St. John the Evangelist in 1421 / The Great John Wodehouse founded a chantry here in honour of the Trinity and Five Wounds of Christ into this charnel (?) with the leave of the Sacrist of the Cathedral / the bones of any who died in Norwich might be brought / if dry and clean from flesh / there to be decently preserved to the last day! / it is now a / Grocers warehouse / HH'
